Tottenham V West Brom at White Hart Lane : Match Preview

25 August 2012 08:15
Defender Jan Vertonghen is likely to make his Tottenham debut against West Brom after Younes Kaboul was ruled out with a knee injury.

Luka Modric will not feature as Spurs look to finalise his move to Real Madrid this weekend, but Michael Dawson is available despite holding talks with QPR over a potential move this week. Emmanuel Adebayor is available after his transfer from Manchester City went through on Tuesday, but Scott Parker (Achilles), Giovani Dos Santos (muscle) and Heurelho Gomes (ankle) are out. Facing Spurs will be Romelu Lukaku, who manager Andre Vilas-Boas claims is ready to take the Barclays Premier League by storm.

Lukaku arrived at Stamford Bridge last summer with high expectations following his £18million transfer from Anderlecht, but former Blues boss Villas-Boas snubbed the 19-year-old nearly all season. Lukaku made just three starts under the Portuguese - all in the League Cup - and had to wait until after Villas-Boas was sacked before he began a Premier League game for the Blues. The big striker has started this season with a bang, however.

Lukaku came off the bench to score for Belgium against Holland last week and then found the net on his West Brom debut against Liverpool.

"I think he is ready for the Premier League," Villas-Boas said. "He is obviously a player with tremendous talent that competed last year against two of the world's best players at Chelsea.

"Lukaku had frustrations last year that you can understand. It's up to him to compete but when you compete against Fernando Torres and Didier Drogba the job is difficult. "Had he overtaken those two to be on team selection every weekend it would have been a tremendous achievement for a 19-year-old." West Brom manager Steve Clarke hopes to have a full squad to choose from. Clarke may be able to call on Graham Dorrans as the midfielder's daughter continues to make progress as she recovers from meningitis in hospital.

There are no injury concerns for Clarke, whose side beat Liverpool last weekend, with summer signing Markus Rosenberg in contention for a place in attack.
