Tottenham v Liverpool live

28 November 2010 18:17
Tottenham will look to complete a memorable week by defeating one of their main rivals for a Champions League spot in Liverpool in the Barclays Premier League. The Reds have had an upturn in fortunes under Roy Hodgson recently but their away form has been awful so far this season with just one win on the road. Kick-off is at 4pm and you can follow all the action with Sportsmail where you can email me all your thoughts on the match at dan.ripley@dailymail.co.uk[LNB] Tottenham 2-1 Liverpool (4pm)Tottenham: Gomes, Hutton, Kaboul (Bassong 36), Gallas, Assou-Ekotto, Lennon, Palacios, Modric, Bale, Van der Vaart (Defoe 12) (Sandro 90), Crouch.Subs: Cudicini, Pavlyuchenko, Kranjcar, Corluka.[LNB]Goals: Skrtel 65, Lennon 90.[LNB]Liverpool: Reina, Johnson, Carragher (Kyrgiakos 87), Skrtel, Konchesky, Kuyt, Meireles, Lucas, Maxi, Torres, Ngog (Aurelio 74).Subs: Jones, Jovanovic, Babel, Poulsen, Shelvey.[LNB]Goals: Skrtel 42.Referee: Martin Atkinson (W Yorkshire) [LNB]18.05: So has that convinced any of you that Spurs are genuine title challengers, I'm still a sceptic because of their defence but that was a super comeback.[LNB]For Liverpool Europe must still be the target but they have to start taking their chances, just when will Torres properly find his shooting boots again?[LNB]From now though that is it from me, thank you for following this afternoon's coverage, enjoy the rest of your weekend. [LNB]18.02: That result takes Spurs up to fifth and just a point behind Manchester City in fourth.[LNB]For Liverpool they sit mid-table in 10th and remain with just two wins on the road in the Premier league this season.[LNB]18.00: Heartbreak for Roy Hodgson's side though who were good value for a point. [LNB]Torres though was just too hesitant with his chances and he still does not look at his best and it cost them big time today.[LNB]17.58: I feel like I was playing out there myself, what a game! If Spurs are to make a title charge then one weapon in their armoury is they just do not know when they are beat.[LNB]Full-time: Tottenham 2-1 Liverpool[LNB]90+6min: Liverpool have a free-kick 35 yards out but for reasons I will never understand go short.[LNB]Spurs win the ball back and after a slip from Kyrgiakos Lennon is through in on goal, after cutting inside and back out again his shot drags across goal and wide, Modric is furious at the far post.[LNB]90+4min: Redknapp makes his last sub as Sandro replaces Defoe.[LNB]90+2min: GOAL! TOTTENHAM 2-1 Liverpool[LNB]What a time to score your first goal in over a year! Aaron Lennon storms past Konchesky outside the box before firing low past Reine when on-on-one.[LNB]90+1min: Five minutes of injury time at the Lane.[LNB]89min: Saved by the flag! Defoe runs onto the ball eight yards out via headers from Crouch and Lennon but after firing past reina has his joy right short lived. He was just a couple of yards off.[LNB]88min: Crunching tackle from Bale, after looking like he wins the ball he admittedly goes right through the winger and is booked for his troubles. Similar shades to the Assou-Ekotto/Kuyt incident.[LNB]87min: In fact that's it for Carragher who limps off but delays enough time for Liverpool to bring on Sotirios Kyrgiakos. Much to the anger of the Spurs fans.[LNB]85min: Time for a breather as after Modric fires just as close but with less conviction, Carragher goes down holding his wrist.[LNB]84min: That is inches, no centimeters! Raul hits a stunning left foot strike across goal 20 yards out which just whistles past the post. Gomes well beaten.[LNB]81min: As we enter the final flurry, it's worth reminding you that this is the first time every Premier league side has scored in the weekend's fixtures.[LNB]No case for the defence there.[LNB]80min: Spurs attack and after Lennon feeds Crouch down the right side of the penalty area (yes I got that the right way round) the striker plays a ball in the box which Reina misses but fortunately for him is in a good position to block Bale's strike.[LNB]In truth he should have had a free-kick anyway after Defoe clearly impedes him.[LNB]79min: Spurs back on the ascendancy but they have not created much since the goal.[LNB]77min: I can't see this game finishing a draw, both side's defence look prone to mistakes and going by chances this game could be about 4-4.[LNB] Star man: Luka Modric was an inspiration in Tottenham's equaliser[LNB]74min: Liverpool's turn to suffer injury misfortune as David Ngog limps off, Fabio Aurelio is on in his place.[LNB]71min: What a game this is. Moments after Liverpool have a penalty shout through an Assou-Ekotto challenge on Kuyt, Spurs go straight down the other end where Defoe's effort is crucially blocked.[LNB]For my money Assou-Ekotto wins the ball but that one is probably open to debate.[LNB]69min: Spurs still going forward looking for the winner but Liverpool have been very dangerous on the counter. This game has at least another goal in it.[LNB]65min: GOAL! TOTTENHAM 1-1 Liverpool[LNB]Brilliant from Modric he gets the ball in a not too dangerous position and after avoiding a number Liverpool challenges in which the Reds don't even get close to him, bursts into the box before knocking the ball square that Martin Skrtel diverts into his own goal.[LNB]64min: Now Liverpool with a a penalty shout but nothing is given and rightly so as Bassong does well to dispossess Kuyt 18 yards out.[LNB]62min: Spurs before that were starting to get on top again in this game, but the amount of chances they have missed is pretty criminal for a Premier League side. [LNB]61min: You are not going to believe this, just like Cesc Fabregas last week David Ngog raises his hand to block the free-kick.[LNB]But unlike last week Defoe drags his penalty wide, Spurs paying the penalty? [LNB]59min: PENALTY (Tottenham)[LNB]58min: Defoe is rather fortunate to win a free-kick outside the box after Defoe seems to run into Carragher's hand. Bale as you would expect steps up.[LNB]56min: Spurs have been awful with the ball in this game, they just can't get any sort of rhythm going with their passing. after Modric feeds the ball out right to an advertising hoarding and Hutton nowhere near it.[LNB]54min: After some Spurs pressure Liverpool are back in attack and win a corner after Bassong slides the ball out yet again.[LNB]51min: It's just not Tottenham's day, Bale this time strikes the ball with some force from 12 yards out and Raul does superb to header it off the line.[LNB]50min: Chance for Spurs from a corner, peter Crouch heads into the six yard box at the far post but neither Gallas or Defoe can get a convincing touch to beat Reina.[LNB] Well timed: Hutton takes the ball away from Ngog[LNB]48min: Come on you spurs is the cry from the Tottenham fans, they are not getting too much of a response, Liverpool in control.[LNB]47min: Liverpool are through again! But it's a complete action replay as Torres in the box is denied by a sliding Bassong just as he goes to pull the trigger.[LNB]Second-half: Spurs get us going again.[LNB]17.01: InfoStradaLive strike again:[LNB]The last time Liverpool lost an away match in the Premier League after leading at the break was at Tottenham in Nov 2008. (0-1 HT, 2-1 Result)[LNB]16.58: Spurs have been good chasers in games this season, most recently as last week when they came back from two goals down to win at Arsenal.[LNB]Liverpool (like Arsenal) right now are good value foe their lead.[LNB]16.52: A fairly even half could have gave us an extraordinary scoreline of Liverpool being 3-0 up! Spurs are not out of it but have not been good enough so far and look jaded (and injured) from their mid-week escapades in the Champions League.[LNB]Half-time: Tottenham 0-1 Liverpool[LNB]45+2min: And another! Gallas carelessly gives the ball away on the halfway line and with Torres baring down on goal Bassong nips in with a perfect sliding challenge.[LNB]45+2min: That has to be two! Torres plays a great through pass for Maxi who instead of blasting past Gomes tries to dummy the keeper who doesn't fool for it and fumbles him at his feet.[LNB]45+1min: Two minutes of injury time.[LNB]45min: Game on then, now this is a big test for Spurs' title credentials. So far I'm not convinced.[LNB] Delight: Liverpool players celebrate Skrtel's (right) goal[LNB]42min: GOAL! Tottenham 0-1 LIVERPOOL[LNB]A free-kick goes high and long in the box and after Martin Skrtel heads the ball onto Ngog he reacts quickest to fire the loose ball past Gomes. Only Tottenham have now failed to score so far this weekend but more importantly Liverpool are in front.[LNB]41min: From that corner Spurs break through Modric, and after a fine run getting to within 30 yards of goal is brought down by Carragher who is not surprisingly booked.[LNB]40min: Could have been disaster for Gomes, Raul has an effort 30 yards but what seemed to to look like a routine parry for Gomes looked anything but as he struggles just to tip past the post.[LNB]39min: Slight lull in the action, Liverpool seem to be growing in confidence though against a side who are dropping like flies.[LNB]36min: Indeed that is it for Kaboul who limps off with Sebastian Bassong coming on, he scored on his debut in this fixture last season.[LNB]34min: Liverpool still look dangerous on the counter though as Torres runs at the Spurs defence before firing from 20 yards which Younes Kaboul blocks. But he goes down looking slightly injured. Two first-half subs from Spurs?[LNB]30min: Brilliant defending from Carragher, Modric's cross to the near post is clumsily parried by Reina towards Defoe whose shot on goal is blocked by on the line by the centre-backs leg.[LNB] Fooling no one: Hutton goes down far too easily in the penalty area[LNB]28min: That's why they keep raving about him. gareth Bale runs from the left, through the centre and to the right of the penalty area before being clatterd by Konchesky who is booked for his troubles.[LNB]26min: Terrible dive from Alan Hutton, he does superbly to make a run into the 18 yard box but goes down with not even a hint of a challenge from a Liverpool player. I'm very surprised Martin Atkinson does not book him for simulation.[LNB]25min: Bit harsh that, Raul Meireles does well to slide in on Gareth Bale leading a counter, even winning the ball. Not according to Martin Atkinson who books the midfielder.[LNB]24min: Some pressure from Liverpool here, they win a couple of corners and throw ins near the Spurs goal, but no real chances have been fashioned.[LNB]23min: Liverpool win a corner after Lucas's shot is blocked out with Raul Meireles ready to take it.[LNB]21min: How often do we see that? A long build up to a free-kick ends with the ball sailing high and wide as Younes Kaboul blasts Modric's little tap clear into the park Lane stand.[LNB]20min: Free-kick to Spurs 30 yards out after Martin Skrtel is adjudged to have fouled Peter Crouch.[LNB]18min: Liverpool look the closer to scoring, Maxi finds a gap in the centre of the 18 yard box to rifle an effort low towards the bottom corner which Gomes does well to tip around the post.[LNB]16min: Spurs sloppy in possession in these early stages. Palacios has been wasteful with his passing and Benoit Assou-Ekotto has been caught on the ball by Torres, luckily for Spurs he gets back in time to make amends by intercepting Dirk Kuyt.[LNB]14min: What a first touch that could have been. Modric crosses from the left and Defoe elects to volley it first time with an unorthodox technique that Reina claims.[LNB] Hamstrung: Van der Vaart was forced off early with a hamstring injury[LNB]13min: Interesting pattern to this game, both sides will fancy their chances after having some early half-chances but nobody is really into full stride yet.[LNB]12min: That's not a bad replacement though is it, Jermain Defoe comes on in his place.[LNB]11min: That's it for Van der Vaart, he looks like he has pulled his hamstring. The gloves are literally off and his afternoon is over as he limps off the pitch and towards the tunnel. Harry Redknapp will be cursing his luck.[LNB]9min: Maxi this time goes close with an effort as his shot from inside the area across goal just creeps wide of the far post. Heurelho Gomes was beaten.[LNB]8min: Liverpool haven't sat back and in fact they go close to scoring a lovely goal as a neat passing move ends with Tores slipping through Maxi Rodriguez first time in the box. He is offside though and Spurs survive.[LNB]5min: Lennon 1-0 Paul Konchesky. The winger skins the full-back on the right before crossing from the byline for Luka Modric to hit a volley into the ground which lacks the power to trouble Reina.[LNB]4min: First sprint forward from Aaron Lennon, he collects a pass from Wilson Palacios before running through the centre and going unchallenged before stepping on the ball on the edge of the box and losing possession. Bit bizarre that.[LNB]2min: Spurs with all the ball...but in their own half. Liverpool happy to let the home side have the early possession.[LNB]Kick-off: Liverpool kick-us off.[LNB]15.59: Captains William Gallas and Jamie Carragher lead their teams out at a very noisy White Hart Lane.[LNB]15.57: Some motivation for Reina today, should he keep out Peter Crouch & co he will rack up his 100th clean sheet, setting a club record in doing it in the minimum amount of games.[LNB]15.55: No snow in north London but it's still very chilly, scarves, coats and gloves galore in the crowd.[LNB]15.52: No Gerrard for Liverpool either of course. A massive test to see if Liverpool can really cope without him. you do feel if Pepe Reina, Carragher and Fernando Torres are off colour, they could be in for a long afternoon.[LNB]15.50: Words of wisdom from Roy Hodgson:[LNB]'I expect to see plenty of chances and attacking football, the the type of play that both teams are disposed to.'[LNB]On Joe Cole:[LNB]'He would be in the 18 man squad but he unfortunately picked up a knock yesterday.'[LNB]15.48: The other concerns the Premier League as a whole.[LNB]Our freinds at Opta have told us that hould Spurs and Liverpool both score, this will be the first weekend in Premier League history with every side playing but no clean sheets.[LNB]15.46: A couple of juicy stats for you, the first regards Spurs' possible 12th man.[LNB]InfoStradaLive inform us that Carragher will make his 450th Premier League appearance. He has scored 3 Premier League own goals for Spurs against Liverpool, the same number he has scored for Liverpool[LNB]15.44: A win which is worth noting would probably end all this business of Spurs being title contenders, they surely can't get it going at the top as early as this season can they?[LNB]15.42: Just to highlight how far Liverpool have bounced back, after nearly propping up the table earlier in the season a two goal victory will take them above Spurs into sixth.[LNB]15.39: Rafael van der Vaart returns to the Tottenham side as Harry Redknapp makes two changes for today's Barclays Premier League game against Liverpool.[LNB]Van der Vaart recovers from an ankle knock as Spurs reverted to a 4-4-1-1 formation, with Wilson Palacios replacing the injured Jermaine Jenas in midfield.[LNB]Liverpool's only change saw Lucas Leiva return from suspension in place of Christian Poulsen, but Joe Cole is not in the squad despite having recovered from a hamstring problem.[LNB]15.37: As they lineup from White Hart Lane:[LNB]Tottenham v LiverpoolTottenham: Gomes, Hutton, Kaboul, Gallas, Assou-Ekotto, Lennon, Palacios, Modric, Bale, Van der Vaart, Crouch. Subs: Cudicini, Pavlyuchenko, Defoe, Bassong, Kranjcar, Corluka, Sandro.Liverpool: Reina, Johnson, Carragher, Skrtel, Konchesky, Kuyt, Meireles, Lucas, Maxi, Torres, Ngog. Subs: Jones, Aurelio, Jovanovic, Kyrgiakos, Babel, Poulsen, Shelvey.Referee: Martin Atkinson (W Yorkshire)[LNB]15.35: So what are this Spurs team made of? Great wins over Arsenal and Werder Bremen this week have had people tipping them as outsiders for glory on all fronts.[LNB]Liverpool though are just starting to shift through the gears under Roy Hodgson and what better place to symbolise your rise up the league than winning at the ground where it all started to go sohorribly wrong on the first day of last season.[LNB]Team news on the way.  [LNB] Back in business: Rafael van der Vaart (left) is back after missing out in the Champions League mid-week [LNB]  Jermain Defoe: Tottenham are title contenders if we beat LiverpoolLiverpool boss Hodgson warns Spurs manager Redknapp over England jobALL TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR FC
