With the January Transfer window looming – certain rumours have been thrown around since the beginning of the 12/13 season. Here I will take a look at the top 5 potential 'comings and goings' of the 'top 6' that will affect The Barclays Premier League.
With only £58,000,000 spent in The British Transfer Market last January – it is fair to say that compared to the summer window, top flight managers are much more reluctant to spend. That said – with such success stories like Papiss Cisse and Nikica Jelavic people may wonder why managers do not spend? Of course, the likes of big spenders Manchester City and Chelsea are in the latter stages of assembling their squads to challenge domestically and on the continent.
In this article – I will look at transfer rumours surrounding teams in The Barclays Premier League. The potential comings and goings and reasons behind the move.
Spurs: Coming In
Paulo Henrique Ganso
Andre Villas-Boas will be hoping to bring in Ganso from Sau Paulo during the January transfer window as he continues to reshape his side. The Brazilian would cost a reported ₤10 million, although any deal would be complicated by the internationals third party ownership. The 22-year-old would step into the void left by Luka Modric.
Joao Moutinho
Spurs reportedly came within minutes of signing the Portuguese international on dead line day this summer but missed out because of third party ownership issues. AVB will still be looking to bring in midfielder in January as he looks to add that extra quality to his team to increase their title chances. Moutinho would cost a reported ₤24 million from Porto.
Dieumerci Mbokani
AVB will be looking to increase his up-front options, currently only having two senior strikers in the squad and 26-year-old Anderlecht front man Mbokani has impressed with his 15 goal haul last season, after being brought in to replace Romelu Lukaku. The players agent has sounded out spurs as a possible destination, saying a January move is not completely out of the question.
Willian
Spurs reportedly failed with a ₤24 million bid for the Shaktar player during the summer but AVB still has the midfielder in his sights and could be looking to bring the Brazil star to North London this January. Shaktar reportedly wanted at least half of the transfer fee paid upfront, but with Tottenham relying on payments from Real Madrid Levy was again making such a big initial outlay.
Adam Maher
According to reports, Tottenham have joined Manchester City in the pursuit of AZ starlet Adam Maher. With AVB impressing the Spurs hierarchy he will be given additional funds in January to continue shaping the squad to his liking. The Alkmaar reportedly turned down a deal with City as a youngster and is also being tracked by Arsenal.
Spurs: Going Out
Michael Dawson
With the emergence of Steven Caulker, Michael Dawson has found himself as fifth choice centre back behind the youngster, Gallas, Kaboul and new signing Jan Vertonghen. This was one of the reason the England international was aloud to speak to QPR during this summers transfer window according to AVB and although he has started games in the Europa League this season, he may still look to leave in January in search of more first team action.
Gareth Bale
The Welsh winger is a reported target for Spanish giants Barcelona and he himself has stated that he would like to play abroad at some point. It is hard to see that Spurs star would ignore overtures from the Catalan team if they were to make a realistic bid.
Danny Rose
Currently on loan at Sunderland, the Spurs youngster has suggested that he would jump at the chance to join The Black Cats on a permanent deal. After failing to make an impression on the first team Rose could be surplus to requirements at Tottenham, which AVB seemingly confirmed by telling Rose he would get more games at Sunderland than he would in North London.
Heurelho Gomes
The once first choice keeper for Spurs has found himself third in the queue behind new recruit Hugo Lloris and veteran Brad Friedel. The warning signs were there for the Brazilian keeper after he was dropped in favour of Friedel because of high profile mistakes that cost Spurs points. The keeper is reportedly unhappy at the North London club and has been told he can leave on loan during the next transfer window.
Jermaine Jenas
Jenas recently joined Nottingham Forest on loan for an initial four week spell after finding himself as a peripheral player for Spurs due to form and fitness. The midfielder last started a match for Tottenham in April 2011 and his loan spell at Villa last season was cut short due to a season-ending achilles injury.
