Tottenham striker Roman Pavlyuchenko a target for Stuttgart

The former Spartak Moscow player had a reasonable first season in the Premier League but his future has remained in doubt, particularly as manager Harry Redknapp has been linked with several strikers in recent weeks. "Pavlyuchenko is an interesting player. His name has come up in discussions within the club," admitted Horst Heldt, the Stuttgart's general manager. Pavlyuchenko attracted criticism for his behaviour after being substituted during Spurs' last home game, against Manchester City, last month, with Redknapp admitting he was disappointed with the player's display of petulance. Roma have also been linked with Pavlyuchenko since the summer transfer window opened. Redknapp has considered an Italian as a replacement but may be put off by the wages Bayern Munich striker Luca Toni is on. Toni, 32, earns €5.5 million after tax at Bayern while another potential signing, Real Madrid's Ruud van Nistelrooy, earns more. Yesterday, Luca Toni admitted he had "no idea" where he would be playing next season. He also responded to recent speculation that he is out of shape. "Everyone is in great shape except me - I am described as slow, clumsy and off form, I am 32 and do not feel old," he said. "In fact, I am in my prime after scoring 61 goals in two years in Germany. I don't think that's a record to be sniffed at."
