Tottenham players don't care enough says Tim Sherwood

Despite lavish spending in the January transfer window the mood at the club has been dark in recent weeks with even the usually jovial Redknapp showing the strain.[LNB]The news that Jermain Defoe is likely to miss the rest of the season after an operation on a metatarsal yesterday did little to change that but Sherwood insists this is no time for players to be feeling sorry for themselves.[LNB]'The manager likes to win matches,' said Sherwood. 'He cares. He's passionate about the game and, if he's not getting the results, then he's got the hump, like all of us have. [LNB]'Unfortunately, what I'm finding more and more is that managers and coaches actually care a lot more than the players, which is a real shame. But it's a fact. [LNB]'The transfer window's gone now and we're going to see which players want a long-term future at Spurs from now until the end of the season. [LNB]'We're in a dogfight and they have to roll up their sleeves and recognise the seriousness of our situation and really put in some performances because we're not doing it. [LNB]'We're capable of playing Arsenal on Sunday and beating them. [LNB]'But it's when you've got to go to difficult places like Bolton and Wigan and really grind a result out. [LNB]'We're not able to do that at the moment. But I'm sure we will — we have to do that if we want to remain in the Premier League.'[LNB]Keane's return has had a mixed reception among Tottenham's fans, with some happy to have a quality goalscorer back in their ranks and others still upset about the Irishman leaving in the first place.[LNB]Sherwood believes, though, that the player's desire to win over his former fans and prove a point to Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez after his ill-fated six month spell at Anfield, will give the side much needed impetus.[LNB]'Individually, some of the players have the fight and some haven't,' said Sherwood. 'Robbie cares. He really falls out with people when things aren't going well. We need that. [LNB]'That's why we tried so hard to get Craig Bellamy because we've got a lot of nice guys at the club and, no disrespect, but Craig Bellamy is not very nice. [LNB]'The guy is a winner and he'll let people know if they're not pulling their weight. [LNB]'Robbie's got that in him also. That's what we need, for sure.'[LNB]
