Tottenham and Sunderland failed toagree terms over a proposed loan swapfor Anton Ferdinand and Alan Hutton. Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp wanted Ferdinand to bolster his creaking defence with injury concerns over Jonathan Woodgate, Michael Dawson and Ledley King's ongoing fitness. However, Scotland right back Hutton was believed to be reluctant to move to the North East, preferring to battle for his place.  Sunderland confirmed the sale of GrantLeadbitter and Carlos Edwards to Ipswich for a combined fee of around £3.95m but David Healy's proposed £1.5m move to Coventry failed to materialise.
