Tottenham facing injury crisis in defence

Injury-plagued Woodgate has a groin problem and has flown to the United States for treatment, while Tottenham captain King has not kicked a ball in pre-season and Dawson has damaged his Achilles. "All three central defenders are struggling for the start of the season in all honesty so it is not an ideal situation," said Redknapp. "We've had a back week." While the injuries could open up opportunities to impress as the trio recover Redknapp is likely to turn to the transfer market, despite limited funds at White Hart Lane. "That position wasn't a problem for us in the past so we don't have anyone on the radar. But suddenly it has become more of a priority for us." Within the club Dorian Dervite, a 20 year-old Frenchman, could step up while Tom Huddleston and Vedran Corluka might need to provide temporary cover. "Dorian returned from a serious knee injury, went on loan at Southend last season and did well. "He's had a good pre-season so far and we'll see how he goes in the tournament. "Tom and Vedran can also play there but all of a sudden we're not overloaded with genuine central defenders." Redknapp's main target had been a striker with Peter Crouch offered the chance to rejoin the former Portsmouth coach, but the south coast side appear to have priced Tottenham out of a deal with their £12-million valuation of the England striker.
