Tottenham concerned over Luka Modric injury
The Croatian international, who also suffered the heartache last week of seeing his country fail to qualify for the World Cup finals, was expected to be back in action by now.
Modric broke a fibula in a challenge with Birmingham’s Lee Bowyer on August 28. He was expected to return in eight weeks but Redknapp admitted he could not put a time scale on the midfielder’s return.
“He is still quite a way away,” admitted Redknapp. “The leg is very tender, and he is very hesitant on his leg still.
“So he still a long way away really. I was hopeful he'd be close after the international break but he hasn't recovered really. He's not happy with it at the moment.
“I wouldn’t like to put a time on it. We started him trying to jog last Friday but he's very tender with it.”
Redknapp also revealed that all three of his Croatian internationals – he also has Niko Kranjcar and Vedran Corluka at White Hart Lane – are down after the country failed to reach South Africa.
“All the lads are down,” added Redknapp. “They're all great lads and they all wanted to go to the World Cup so it's a shame for them. I'd like to have seen them do it. I was hoping that England would get the result in the Ukraine to help them as well.”
