Tottenham chasing KlaasJan Huntelaar and Patrick Vieira

Tottenham have tracked the Dutchman for a month, having also considered team-mates Gabriel Heinze and Arjen Robben. One complication to signing Huntelaar would be the fact that there is a sell-on clause which would force Madrid to pay former club Ajax €7 million if they sell him this summer. But Tottenham's hopes of finally entering the summer transfer market could hinge on the willingness of European clubs to sanction moves. While hopes of signing Patrick Vieira remain slim, if Inter Milan were to give the former Arsenal captain a pay-off and drop the £750,000 asking price, he could still return to North London. And, going in the opposite direction, could be Gareth Bale, with AC Milan and Roma both linked with a move for the teenager. Milan had previously been associated with the 19-year-old, should they fail in their attempts to sign Aly Cissokho. But now Roma are believed to be considering a move for the Wales international. Bale is seen as surplus to requirements at Spurs, having lost his place at left-back to Benoit Assou-Ekotto last season. He can also boast the unlikely honour of never having won a Premier League game he has started in. Vieira, now 33, earns around £80,000 a week in Milan and would have to accept a considerable drop in wages, to £35,000. But it would also be dependant on Jose Mourinho, the Inter manager, in dropping any transfer fee. Inter wanted £750,000 for Vieira, but Spurs want him on a free, with manager Harry Redknapp seeing the Frenchman as the perfect role model for his younger players.
