Tottenham boosted by news Sebastien Bassong is eligible for Liverpool clash

Bassong joined from Newcastle United last week and the central defender was expected to be suspended, having been sent off in the penultimate game of last season, against Fulham. As it was his second dismissal of the campaign he was given a two-match ban, serving the first in the final game, against Aston Villa. Spurs claim that, as he served the first game suspension as a Newcastle player, the suspension continued to apply to Newcastle games and the Football Association was therefore satisfied when his former club visited West Bromwich Albion on the opening day of the Championship season on Saturday, that he has technically completed the ban. Meanwhile, Yuri Berchiche has joined Real Valladolid on a permanent transfer. The Spanish defender joined the Tottenham academy from Athletic Bilbao in June 2007 and, last season, spent three months on loan at Cheltenham Town. And highly-rated midfielder Jake Livermore has joined Derby County on a one-month loan. The 19-year-old recently signed a new contract with Spurs until 2011 and has previously had loan spells with MK Dons and Crewe Alexandra. Livermore impressed in the pre-season build-up, memorably scoring Spurs' equaliser against Barcelona in the Wembley Cup last month.
