Tottenham and Wales defender Gareth Bale undergoes knee surgery

Bale was withdrawn from Wales's squad for the World Cup tie away to Azerbaijan when the problem was originally discover and a scan has confirmed that Bale, 20, has a medial meniscal tear in his knee and a Tottenham spokesman confirmed that he will be sidelined for "up to eight weeks". [LNB]Spurs return for training early in July and have a busy pre-season programme, with games in Hong Kong, China and at Wembley, against three clubs including Barcelona. [LNB]Bale 's season continued in disappointing fashion; he joined Spurs two years ago for £5 million but, in 24 Premier League games he has yet to feature in the winning side. And now the youngster faces the prospect of spending the summer recuperating from a serious operation. [LNB]Meanwhile, Bale's Tottenham team-mate Tom Huddlestone is the subject of a £6 million move by Bolton manager Gary Megson.
