The England and Spurs star has been charged with exceeding a 30mph speed limit and failing to provide the identity of the driver in Portsmouth, for whom he played at the time, on May 8 last year. At a hearing at Portsmouth Magistrates' Court, which the 26 year-old did not attend, a trial date was set for Jan 4 at the same court and the case was adjourned until then. Meanwhile a 47-year-old fan has been charged with racially abusing a Championship footballer during a Carling Cup tie, police said on Monday. Staffordshire Police said the unnamed man, who is alleged to have made racist comments to Blackpool striker Jason Euell, was bailed to appear before magistrates in Stoke-on-Trent next week. The man, from Newcastle-under-Lyme, was arrested at the Britannia Stadium during Stoke's 4-3 victory over Blackpool on Sept 23. A police spokesman confirmed that he had been charged with a racially aggravated public order offence and bailed to appear in court on Oct 13.
