Tottenham 3 Werder Bremen 0: Spurs through to last 16 as Harry's men run riot at White Hart Lane

[LNB]Harry Redknapp stood on the touchline with his hands deep in his coat pockets and killed a high ball with the outside of his right foot. The Tottenham manager is making everything look easy at the moment.[LNB]Inter Milan? Arsenal? Perfect control in black slip-on shoes? Redknapp resisted the temptation to crack a smile at the audacity of his footwork, a flashback to the touchline trickery of his days on the wing at West Ham. Instead, he retreated to the bench with a straight face. [LNB] Flying start: Younes Kaboul celebrates after his sixth minute strike gifted Tottenham the lead[LNB] [LNB] An hour or so later, his team hadclinched their place in the last 16 of the Champions League. Not manyEnglish managers have boasted about that recently. For added value, they have done it before the Gunners. [LNB]It has been an impressive debutcampaign for Tottenham and it is not over yet. White Hart Lane willenjoy at least one more Champions League night this season. It is hardto believe Redknapp's team were three down in the first 28 minutes oftheir play-off round against Young Boys back in August. [LNB] Three and easy: Peter Crouch scores Tottenham's third 11 minutes from time [LNB]Younes Kaboul, Luka Modric and PeterCrouch supplied the goals on Wednesday night to beat depleted WerderBremen, and the exhilarating Gareth Bale terrorised yet another fullback. The only blemishes were an injury to Jermaine Jenas and a penaltymiss by Bale, Tottenham's third of the season. [LNB]A win away at Twente next month willsecure top place in Group A ahead of Inter, which would protect themfrom being drawn against the other group winners when the firstknock-out stage comes around next year. [LNB]Redknapp said: 'We really want totry and win the group if we can. I think it's a big advantage. My mainaim was to get through that knock-out stage and we nearly came unstuckin that first game. We were lucky in the end. [LNB]Strike it lucky: Kaboul (No 4) hammered home in his second goal in as many games to open the lead[LNB] [LNB] 'Now we've got to keep going. The crowd love it, I love, it's great for the football club. We want it every year.' [LNB]Even with Rafael van der Vaart outnursing an ankle injury which should not stop him playing againstLiverpool on Sunday, Redknapp still started with Jermain Defoe on thebench ashe looks for sharpness after 10 weeks out with torn ankleligaments. [LNB]Perhaps the manager knew more goalswere on the way from central defender Kaboul, who struck in the sixthminute. Having initially gone forward for a corner which was easilycleared, Kaboul loitered in the goalmouth as Alan Hutton sprayed theloose ball out to Aaron Lennon, who skipped past Daniel Jensen anddelivered a low cross. Kaboul met it on the volley, skidding the balldown into the turf and up into the roof of the net. It was his secondgoal in 11 minutes of football following his 85th-minute winner againstArsenal on Saturday, and he went close again with a header before thebreak. [LNB] Mod father: Luka Modric doubled Tottenham's lead with a fantastic strike on the volley[LNB]Lennon, hauled off at half-time atthe Emirates, was relishing his duel with debutant Dominik Schmidt, andBale was tearing Clemens Fritz apart on the opposite flank. Inter Milanand Brazil right back Maicon had been embarrassed in similar fashionthree weeks earlier, and Fritz was booked for dragging the winger tothe floor.[LNB]As against Inter, much of Bale's early work was spoiled by poor finishing, with Crouch and Roman Pavlyuchenko culpable.[LNB]MATCH FACTS TOTTENHAM (4-4-2): Gomes 6; Hutton 6, Gallas 7, Kaboul 7, Assou-Ekotto 7; Lennon 8, Jenas 6 (Palacios 19min, 7), Modric 8, Bale 8 (Kranjcar, 80); Crouch 6, Pavlyuchenko 6 (Defoe 62, 6). Subs not used: Cudicini, Corluka, Bassong, Keane. [LNB]WERDER BREMEN (4-2-3-1): Wiese 7; Fritz 5, Mertesacker 6, Prodl 5, Schmidt 5; Jensen 6 (Pasanen 85), Bargfrede 7; Kroos 5 (Ayik 55, 5), Hunt 4 (Thy 79), Marin 7; Wagner 5. Subs not used: Mielitz, Husejinovic, Andersen, Testroet. Booked: Fritz, Prodl, Kroos. [LNB]Man of the match: Gareth Bale.[LNB] Referee: Olegario Benquerenca (Por).[LNB] Werder's best football came midwaythrough the first half with some pretty passing but Tottenham's backfour looked comfortable, with Redknapp compar ing the composedperformance of captain William Gallas to Bobby Moore after the game. [LNB]Nevertheless, relief washed aroundthe ground when Modric extended the lead in first-half stoppage time.Hutton launched a deep ball into the area and Crouch leapt well abovePer Mertesacker to head it down to Modric, who took a touch, wriggledaround his marker and smashed it into the net. [LNB]Spurs squandered plenty ofopportunities to kill the game with a third. Sebastian Prodl felledLennon and Bale curled the free-kick on to the bar with keeper TimWiese frozen to his line.[LNB] Crouch then missed a simplebackpost header from another Bale cross, this time heading the ballinto Prodl's back. From the corner, Spurs were awarded a penalty. FelixKroos, another player starting his first game for a Werder side in thegrip of an injury crisis, tripped Modric as he darted into the area. Portuguesereferee Olegario Benquerenca pointed to the spot and Bale struck hispenalty firmly but far too close to the goalkeeper and Wiese beat itaway easily. [LNB]The miss proved to inspire the Welshwinger to greater deeds and, as ever, he became more threatening asopponents tired and the game was stretched. He whipped an endlesssupply of crosses in behind the back four but still there was nofinish. [LNB]Not so invincible: Gareth Bale had his head in his hands after missing a second half penalty[LNB] [LNB] Redknapp sent on Defoe forPavlyuchenko, who was far from impressed, ripping off his gloves andthrowing them to the floor, but it was Crouch who scored the third, hissixth European goal of the season, with a smart finish after goodapproach play by Lennon. [LNB]Redknapp said: 'You enjoy the goodtimes because that's what football's about, but I try not to get toocarried away. 'I love Champions League football. I've always gone towatch games at Arsenal and Chelsea, and to be part of it is great. Buton Sunday we're back to the Premier League and a massive match againstLiverpool.'[LNB] Tottenham 3 Werder Bremen 0: How the action unfolded at White Hart LaneGomes warns Tottenham must find ruthless streak to fight for the titleRedknapp's message for returning Defoe...
