The 1981 FA Cup final was the first of three consecutive finals to be settled by a replay.

After an inconclusive tie between Manchester City and Tottenham five days earlier, the two sides met again following the 1-1 draw and played out a classic.

Argentine forward Ricardo Villa was ineffective in the first tie, but it took him just seven minutes to find the net on this occasion, putting Spurs 1-0 up.

City were level within three minutes, the goal came from Steve MacKenzie and they were soon in the lead after just a further four minutes.

A foul on Dave Bennett gave City a penalty, Kevin Reeves dispatched the penalty emphatically.

The Spurs equaliser came from Garth Crooks with twenty minutes left after Steve Archibald ran free following Glenn Hoddle's pass.

Six minutes later, Chris Galvin fed Villa and the Argentinian jinked past Tommy Caton and Ray Ranson and decided the game in spectacular style handing Tottenham the Cup.
