Tottenham Hotspur have entered the race for Anzhi Makhachkala forward Willian according to reports via The Daily Mirror.
The North London side will once again rival Liverpool for a major signing that could break their transfer record again this summer. Anzhi have encountered financial trouble this summer and are being forced to sell of their prized assets. Zhirkov (formerly of Chelsea) and Russia captain Denisov have already left for Dinamo Moscow and Willian is thought to be the next name on the move.
The Russian side are holding out for nearer to £30m than the reported £26m that Liverpool have already bid according to the Mirror. Tottenham though are believed to see Willian as a possible replacement for Gareth Bale if he were to leave for Madrid this summer and could equal Anzhi’s valuation.
Andre Villas Boas is a known admirer of the Brazilian and tried to sign him whilst at Chelsea last season.
