Spurs suffer Sandro blow as midfielder is ruled out for three months after knee surgery

Tottenham midfielder Sandro is expected to be out of action for three months after undergoing knee surgery.[LNB]The 22-year-old returned to London earlier this week after suffering the injury on international duty with Brazil on Monday and now looks likely to miss the first two months of the new Barclays Premier League season.[LNB]A club statement read: 'Following consultation with an independent knee specialist, Sandro underwent surgery on his left knee in London.[LNB] Crocked: Sandro (right) will be out for three months[LNB]'Sandro withdrew from Brazil's Copa America campaign on Tuesday due to injury with scans confirming he had torn his lateral meniscus, as well as suffering a calf strain.[LNB]'The specialist has advised a three-month rehabilitation period before a return to full training.'[LNB]Sandro was sent for a scan after complaining of pains in both his calves and his knee in training during Brazil's Copa America campaign in Argentina.[LNB]Results showed that the midfielder had ruptured the meniscus in his left knee - an injury which requires surgery and usually takes around a month to heal - but specialists have now delivered a worse prognosis for Spurs.[LNB] Blow: Sandro was injured while on international duty with Brazil[LNB]Sandro has become a popular figure at White Hart Lane since his move to the club in March 2010.[LNB]The Brazilian, who signed from Internacional for ?8million, played 26 times for Harry Redknapp's team last term, and made his international debut in 2009.[LNB]The injury could further strengthen Spurs' already fierce resolve to hang on to Luka Modric, who is believed to have been the subject of two bids from Chelsea.[LNB]Modric will not play in Tottenham's pre-season match against Kaizer Chiefs later today due to an ankle injury.[LNB] Out: Luka Modric won't feature for Spurs amid continued interest from Chelsea[LNB]The 25-year-old had looked set to play his first game since the row over his protracted move to Stamford Bridge began, but it is understood that an existing injury to his ankle has flared up since he arrived in South Africa and he will therefore not take part in the game in Polokwane.[LNB]The Croatia playmaker has missed parts of two training sessions but the injury is only minor and there are no plans to send him home.[LNB]He is reported to have submitted his transfer request on the eve of the club's departure for their pre-season tour of South Africa, but he still travelled with the squad.[LNB]  CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR FREE FANTASY FOOTBALL GAMEI predict a riot!
