Tottenham Hotspur players defied manager Harry Redknapp by arranging a secret Christmas party, it has been claimed.

Redknapp last week insisted he would not allow his players to have a bash and he has also voiced his anger at stars being photographed in nightclubs.

The White Hart Lane boss sanctioned a golf trip to Ireland for his players, but squad instead visited two bars and a nightclub, it is claimed in The Sun.

They arrived in Dublin on Tuesday last week, returning the followingday. Spurs then lost 1-0 at home to struggling Wolverhampton Wanderers, but Redknapp has refused to blame the result on the trip.

'Wednesday was their day off and Robbie (Keane) told me they were going to Ireland to play golf,' said Redknapp. 'I had no problem with that.

'However, it is widely known that I do not approve of Christmas partiesand I've always made it clear players should only drink in moderation.

'Whatever happened in Ireland, I do not accept it had any effect on the result against Wolves. The squad trained brilliantly on Thursday and Friday and there were other reasons why we lost that match.

Asked a week ago about the prospect of his players holding a Christmas party, Redknapp said: 'He said: 'They're nothing but aggravation. Everyone's waiting for you to trip up, or go out and be acting silly.

''If they tell me they're having a Christmas party I'll tell them they're not having one.'

Peter Crouch felt Redknapp's wrath when he was photographed partying with team-mate Jonathan Woodgate at a trendy London club in November.

The striker was called an idiot by his boss after being pictured dancing with his shirt unbuttoned and his jeans soaked either by sweator a spilled drink.

The England international then continued the antics bypoking his lanky frame through the sun-roof of a moving people carrierafter leaving the club at 2am.
