Spurs set to launch bid for West Ham defender Tomkins

Tottenham are considering a move for West Ham centre back James Tomkins.

The 22-year-old broke into the West Ham side in 2008 but has emerged this season as one of the club’s most important player with a string of consistent performances.

Newcastle had been reportedly interested with Alan Pardew, who managed Tomkins at West Ham, ready to make a bid of around £2.5 million for the defender.

Tottenham may need to increase their bid to closer to £10million with the possibility of either Sebastian Bassong or Vedran Corluka going in the other direction.

West Ham are unlikely to sell their star asset, as Sam Allardyce attempts to take the club back to the Premier League at the first attempt.
