Spurs set to land Bassong

Tottenham are set to seal the capture of Newcastle star Sebastien Bassong, Sky Sports News understands. Bassong made it clear earlier this week that Tottenham was his preferred option, after he was also linked with the likes of Manchester City, Everton and Arsenal. Spurs have now made their move and Sky Sports News understands that Bassong has already undergone a medical with the North London club. It is understood the clubs have agreed a fee in the region of £8million. Bassong only joined Newcastle last summer from Metz, and despite their relegation from the Premier League he emerged with a huge amount of credit after a string of impressive displays. Now the race for his signature looks to have been won by Harry Redknapp. Redknapp has been anxious to bolster his defensive options after Ledley King, Jonathan Woodgate and Michael Dawson all suffered injury setbacks in pre-season.
