Safe hands: Portsmouth goalkeeper David James Harry Redknapp is going back to his old club Portsmouth with an £8m offer for David James and Niko Kranjcar. The Tottenham boss, who has already signed strikers Jermaine Defoe and Peter Crouch from Pompey, is looking to bring in an experienced goalkeeper before Tuesday's transfer deadline and knows James wants to leave Fratton Park. The England goalkeeper is anxious to make sure his World Cup prospects are not damaged if Pompey continue to struggle, although Spurs face competition from Sunderland. Redknapp has earmarked Pompey's unsettled Croatia midfielder Kranjcar as a replacement for the injured Luka Modric, but has also revived his interest in Manchester City's Martin Petrov and Rafael van der Vaart of Real Madrid. He still hopes to sign Hondruas centre-back Osman Chavez on loan from Platense.
