Spurs' Sebastien Bassong given all clear after suffering head injury against Chelsea

Bassong fell on the side of his face during the 3-0 defeat at Chelsea and left the field with oxygen and in a neck brace. But a spokesman for Spurs said: “Sebastien Bassong was back at Spurs Lodge today for further assessment after being given the all-clear by a Head and Neck consultant at a hospital on Sunday evening.” Fellow central defender Ledley King, who was also injured at Stamford Bridge, will undergo a scan on his right hamstring after also being forced off with injury early on in the second half of Sunday's contest. Spurs lost 3-0 at Chelsea and finished with a makeshift back four; they switched right-back Vedran Corluka and midfielder Tom Huddlestone to the back. With Jonathan Woodgate’s groin injury causing further concerns and Michael Dawson also out, there are currently no fit central defenders available to Harry Redknapp, the Tottenham manager, who admitted that King’s injuries were a problem. Because of a long-term knee problem, the England defender cannot train, and that produces other problems. “You need centre-halves,” said Redknapp. “If you took John Terry out of Chelsea’s side and had to stick someone else in they would struggle. “Ledley is a problem and this time it was his hamstring. When you don't train all week and then try to put yourself under pressure. It can aggravate other injuries. “He's the most fantastic person and player, and he's so important for us, but if you don't train you can't just go out and play without doing hamstrings, groins or calves. “Woodgate is nowhere near playing again. He went to see a specialist again on Friday and he just can't train. We haven't got to the bottom of the injury at all, what's causing him discomfort. Dawson has a chance, he's the only one.” Spurs face Preston in the Carling Cup on Wednesday, at Deepdale, before Burnley visit White Hart Lane on Saturday when Redknapp may have to change his formation again.
