Spurs seal Crouch deal

Tottenham have signed Peter Crouch after reaching an agreement with Portsmouth.[LNB] Harry Redknapp worked with Crouch during his time in charge at Fratton Park and declared an interest in the England striker earlier this month.[LNB]Redknapp hinted that Crouch may be too expensive for Spurs but Pompey have now accepted an offer, believed to be in the region of £9million.[LNB]The 28-year-old has also completed a medical at White Hart Lane and agreed personal terms.[LNB]Crouch had appeared close to joining Sunderland last week but then pulled out of a move as he wanted to remain in the South of England.[LNB]Key roleHe was linked with a number of other clubs after enjoying a fine campaign for Portsmouth, during which he scored 16 goals in all competitions.[LNB]Pompey have revealed their sadness at having to let Crouch leave, but admitted they had no other option.[LNB]"We are sorry to see Peter go both as a player and a person and would like to thank him for playing a key role in keeping the club in the Premier League last season," said a club spokesman.[LNB]"His sale was necessitated by the club's commitment to repay scheduled debts while we are in a transitional period of completing the takeover.[LNB]"We will now be looking to add fresh faces to the first-team squad as soon as possible."[LNB]
