Spurs manager Redknapp ready to go to the wire for summer signings
Harry Redknapp is preparing for his summer wheeling and dealing to be finalised on the last day of the transfer window.
In the ideal world Redknapp (right) would have his squad in place for pre-season but the Tottenham manager knows the reality will be different.
He said: 'Some teams will look to hold on to a player to get more money for him. It's all a juggling act, you make right decisions and some wrong decisions. It's who holds their nerve in many cases.
'A club might ask £12million for a player when you know they really want to sell him because they need the money. It then goes down to the wire and it becomes a game of poker between the chairmen.'
Redknapp will play no part in Spurs' transfer negotiations. He has given Daniel Levy his wish-list and the chairman will conduct the financial side of deals.
'All I do is identify the players. After that deals are done chairman to chairman or chairman to chief executive,' added Redknapp.
'Deals are not done by managers, they haven't been for years. We have a list of players but getting them is not easy. They're good players who would improve us, but getting good players and clubs to sell them is not always easy.
'You can always buy average players who haven't done it but getting players who have done well for clubs is not easy.'
Redknapp will be looking to offload some players, notably David Bentley, to finance new signings.
He said: 'We won't be doing anything unless we sell. For us to bring anyone in we're going to have to shift one or two out. We're not in a position where we can go out and splash money around after spending so much in the last window.'
