Spurs flop David Bentley handed Carling Cup role to rescue career at White Hart Lane

Harry Redknapp has challenged David Bentley to kick-start his Tottenham career by sinking Championship high-flyers Preston. Bentley has failed to make his mark at White Hart Lane after arriving from Blackburn for £15million last summer. The former England international was linked with a move away from the club following a long run of poor form and his recent arrest for drink-driving. But the 25-year-old midfielder is in line for a start in the Carling Cup clash with North End and Redknapp has urged bentley to take his chance. David doesn't see a lot of light at the end of the tunnel at the moment,' Spurs boss Redknapp told the Evening Standard. 'He sees Aaron Lennon playing very well and he will only get in the team by performing, working hard and showing a good attitude. 'I don't know what I can say to him except to keep working hard - and that when his chance comes he's got to take it. Tonight is another chance for David, so it's up to him to come in and play well.' There will also be outings for Giovani Dos Santos, Gareth Bale, Peter Crouch and goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes.
