Tottenham's Harry Redknapp and Jermain Defoe have been named the Premier League's Manager and Player of the Month, respectively, for August. The duo have landed the awards following Spurs' excellent start to the new season, which has seen the White Hart Lane outfit maintain a 100 per cent record. Victories over Liverpool, Hull City, West Ham and Birmingham have earned Tottenham second place in the table. Defoe scored a hat-trick in the 5-1 win at Hull to reinforce his reputation, while he also netted against former club West Ham. This is the first time he has won the award and he is the first Spurs recipient since Robbie Keane and Dimitar Berbatov were named joint winners in April 2007. Redknapp has now been named the Premier League's Manager of the Month on six occasions, with only Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger surpassing that achievement.
