Spurs cruise to Posh win

22 July 2009 09:40
Three goals in 12 second-half minutes helped a strong Tottenham side to a comfortable 4-0 win at Peterborough. Posh were lucky not to be a man down after just six minutes when Charlie Lee hacked down Jermaine Jenas on the edge of the penalty area when he was through on goal. Jenas blasted the resulting free-kick straight into the wall. Spurs continued to create chances, but it was Peterborough who had the ball in the net on the half-hour, only for Lee Frecklington's effort to be ruled out for offside. Darren Bent finally broke the deadlock 10 minutes before half-time, slamming the ball home from the edge of the penalty box. Second-half substitute Jermain Defoe doubled Spurs' lead after 65 minutes, coolly slotting home the rebound from his own powerful drive. Luka Modric extended the lead shortly afterwards, before Roman Pavlyuchenko completed the scoring, curling a superb stike past a helpless Joe Lewis.
