Spurs bungled deal to sign me, blasts Ghana skipper Appiah

Stephen Appiah has hit out at Tottenham, saying the London club spent too long trying to sort out a deal for him. The Ghana captain, a free agent after leaving Fenerbahce following a contract dispute, says he eventually snubbed Tottenham's advances. Appiah had been expected to sign for the London club on a six-month contract, having been in training with the first-team squad. It is believed that Tottenham were then put off by his fitness problems and ruled out a move for him once they took on Wilson Palacios. Appiah, 28, has given a different version of events, though. The midfielder, nickmaned The Tornado because of his all-action and combative displays, told the media in Italy: 'I was originally meant to stay for five days. 'But, after that, the club wanted me to stay for another three weeks. After that, they again asked that I stay for a month. I then decided it was better to try elsewhere.'
