Spartak Moscow have not given up hope of signing Tottenham Hotspur striker Roman Pavlyuchenko by the end of today. The Russia striker's former club were knocked back in a bid to re-sign him on loan last week, but have entered 11th-hour talks with Spurs following a 3-0 weekend defeat at home to title rivals Rubin Kazan. They are reluctant to meet the £10.5million price-tag, which was also the stumbling block that led Zenit St Petersburg to signing Mateja Kezman on loan from Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday. Zenit and Lokomotiv Moscow are both monitoring the situation, butSpartak are in the driving seat to take back a player they sold for£13.8m last summer. Meanwhile, Ricardo Rocha, who was released by Spurs at the end of the season, is set to sign for Standard Liege.
