Sol Campbell will never play for Spurs again reiterates Harry Redknapp

The former Arsenal and Spurs defender stunned Notts County by walking away from the League Two side just four weeks into a five-year contract. The Football League have said that the ex-England international will have to wait until January in order to join a new club, but Redknapp has insisted that Spurs will not give Campbell a way back into the game. "Some people are already claiming I am now going to sign Sol. Well, let's nail that one straight away – it ain't going to happen," Redknapp says in his column in the Sun. "I said during the summer that, if I was the boss of any other Premier League club, I'd sign Sol like a shot. That statement still applies today. But there is no way in the world Sol is ever going to play for Spurs again." Redknapp instead feels Campbell was wrong to make the drop down to League Two – and was stunned that he even decided to join Sven-Goran Eriksson at Meadow Lane. "There is no way in the world Sol should ever have been playing in League Two. He's far too good for that level," Redknapp added. "I don't mean to be rude to the Notts County lads but they could never reach the standards Sol had set during spells at Spurs, Arsenal and Pompey. "And you can bet that thought was going through his head when he made his Magpies debut in their 2-1 defeat at Morecambe at the weekend. "Even at 35-years-old, Sol is still good enough to play at the top level for a few more seasons." Campbell may decide to call time on his career although Newcastle are also one of a number of clubs interested in signing the former Portsmouth defender.
