Roman Pavlyuchenko set for Russia return as Zenit eye Tottenham misfit

Spartak Moscow are ready to pay £10million to end Roman Pavlyuchenko's Tottenham Hotspur nightmare. Zenit St Petersburg and Lokomotiv Moscow are also interested in the 27-year-old, but his former club have made the first move by declaring their intention to re-sign a player they sold for £13.8m last summer. Valery Karpin, the Spartak director-general and caretaker boss, said: 'We would like to bring 'Pavlyuchenko to' Spartak, but, of course, not for the amount for which he was sold. That would be absurd. 'If, for example, we are talking about £10m, we are ready to discuss question. 'We would be ready for a loan agreement, but, as far as I know, the Tottenham board unambiguously refuse to release Roman in these circumstances.' Roma were also intersted in a loan deal, but Pavlyuchenko yesterday revealed only a permanent deal would be courted by his north London employers. The Russia striker held talks with White Hart Lane boss Harry Redknapp on Tuesday before speaking to Levy on the phone about his future. 'The meeting with Redknapp was very good,' said Pavlyuchenko. 'He said I was in his plans but understood that my desire is to leave if I can't get match practice. 'However, the chairman confirmed again that the option of a loan won't even be considered. The amount they want for me is large, which could stop potential buyers. If that is the case, I'll stay at Tottenham and wait for a chance. Everything will be resolved one way or the other this week.' Zenit have money to spend after struggling to attract high-profile targets to Russia this summer. They have already been turned down by Alvaro Negredo, who left Real Madrid for Sevilla, and failed in bids for Lazio striker Goran Pandev and Fiorentina's Adrian Mutu. The struggling club are also hoping to re-sign striker Alexander Kerzhakov from Dynamo Moscow and £13million-rated Spartak Moscow winger Vladimir Bystrov before the close of the transfer window. Pavlyuchenko is seen as a potential replacement for Pavel Pogrebnyak, who recently left for Stuttgart. The Spurs player fears he will lose his place in the Russia side ahead of next summer's World Cup if he is not playing regular first-team football.
