Roman: I'll battle to earn my Spurs
Roman Pavlyuchenko is determined to fight for his place in Harry Redknapp's plans after struggling for a regular Tottenham shirt this season.
The 27-year-old has struggled for regular football since his £13.7million move from Spartak Moscow at the start of the season but has still managed 14 goals in all competitions.
He came off the bench at the weekend to score the winner against West Ham.
"When you are on the bench for five games in a row, when the press are getting to you, to come off the bench and score straight away is incredibly important," Pavlyuchenko told Russian newspaper Sport Express.
"The goal will certainly give me strength for the battle for a place in the team.
"My belief that I would definitely get my chance encouraged me. I had to keep myself fit and in form so as not to miss it.
"I needed that goal like never before - even more so as it was the winner."
Arsenal midfielder Andrey Arshavin described Pavlyuchenko's goal as "excellent".
Arshavin and Pavlyuchenko both play under Chelsea's manager boss Guus Hiddink for Russia - and Arshavin believes his international boss will relish the run-in and the prospect of wresting the title from champions Manchester United.
"Manchester United should be wary," he said. "The English have already realised what a special trainer our Guus Hiddink is."
