Roman eyes Carling Cup record
Tottenham striker Roman Pavlyuchenko is looking to write his way into the record books by becoming the first player to score in every round of the Carling Cup.[LNB] The 27-year-old found the net against Newcastle, Liverpool and Watford and then in both legs of the semi-final against Burnley, with Manchester United awaiting Spurs in the final on Sunday.[LNB]The Russian international signed for £14million in the summer as Spurs looked to replace the outgoing Robbie Keane and Dimitar Berbatov.[LNB]But the former Spartak Moscow man has scored just three goals in the Premier League this season instead saving his best form for Carling Cup where he has notched six times from the five games. [LNB]With Spurs struggling at the bottom end of the table all season the side have seemed to welcome the distraction that the Carling Cup has brought, something which is highlighted most by Pavlyuchenko's form in the competition. [LNB]"It's something that I am thinking about," he told the Tottenham Journal regarding the record.[LNB]Priority"But my only priority is that we play well and win. If I score goals too then this can only be a good thing.[LNB]"It took me a while to adapt my game from the Russian style. Tottenham supporters have shown patience because I think I have shown what I am capable of since.[LNB]"I don't approach cup games any differently to league matches but in the Carling Cup things seem to have fallen into place.[LNB]"Our Carling Cup run this year has given us something to cling to and everyone is so determined to go all the way now.[LNB]"We owe a lot to the supporters who have stood by us through some difficult times. To repay them by winning the trophy would be a great thing."[LNB]
