Redknapp verdict imminent

The jury trying Harry Redknapp on charges of tax evasion was this afternoon considering its verdict after being instructed by the judge to ignore the 'deeply emotive' subject of football.

Judge Anthony Leonard told the jurors in his two-hour summing up of the case, that finished at 12.15pm, that they must instead focus on the evidence they had heard during the 12 days of the trial at Southwark Crown Court.

The first charge alleges that between 1 April 2002 and 28 November 2007 Mandaric paid $145,000 (£93,100) into an off-shore Monaco account belonging to Redknapp.

The second charge relates to a sum of $150,000 (£96,300) allegedly paid between 1 May 2004 and 28 November 2007.

A verdict is expected tomorrow after the jury failed to make a decision.
