Redknapp to the rescue! Harry set to offer David James escape to Spurs

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp is poised to raid former club Portsmouth again and make an offer for David James, as he awaits results of scans to Heurelho Gomes's injury suffered at Hull City last night. The Brazilian left the KC Stadium with his thigh heavily strapped after he fell awkwardly in his side's emphatic 5-1 win and he was replaced by Carlo Cudicini after just 16 minutes. Gomes will have a scan on the injury today and Redknapp admitted he may have to look for additional cover if the results are as bad as the former PSV Eindhoven keeper's reaction suggests. Ex-Chelsea keeper Cudicini is likely to start at West Ham on Sunday and has a chance to prove his credentials to Redknapp, who signed him on a free transfer from Stamford Bridge in January. The Italian's last Tottenham appearance was an unconvincing one at Hull in February and he has had to wait patiently for his chance after Gomes's return to form last season. The Spurs boss has sent young keepers David Button and Ben Alnwick on loan to Crewe Alexandra and Norwich City, and he needs an experienced campaigner if £7.8 million Gomes faces a lengthy lay-off. But he will be prepared to give James the Number One slot at White Hart Lane and with the continued uncertainty at Fratton Park, Redknapp is aware of James's unhappiness and is prepared to offer him a chance to escape.
