Redknapp hails Spurs display

Harry Redknapp felt Tottenham fully deserved their 2-1 victory over Liverpool at White Hart Lane. Spurs created several good chances in the first half before taking the lead through a stunning Benoit Assou-Ekotto effort just before the break. Liverpool applied much more pressure in the second period and equalised thanks to a Steven Gerrard penalty. However, debutant Sebastien Bassong headed home a Luka Modric free-kick to seal the three points for Tottenham. "I thought the game could have been over at half-time. We had three great opportunities. I felt we were much the better team at half-time," Redknapp told Sky Sports. "I felt if we kept playing the way we were, we would win quite comfortably. "Liverpool came back at us but over the 90 minutes I thought we were the better side today." Bassong had not scored during his time with Newcastle but Redknapp was not too surprised to see him pop up with the winner. He explained. "Bassong can score goals. He is a fantastic header of the ball and I think he is going to be a tremendous player for us." Redknapp also lavished praise on Wilson Palacios, who produced an excellent performance in the heart of midfield. "He is a proper midfield player, the type Tottenham have been looking for," said Redknapp. "He gets around the pitch, he can tackle, he can pass it, he has been superb since he arrived."
