Real Madrid v Tottenham live

Follow Sportsmail's coverage of the Champions League where Tottenham hope to grab a positive result when they visit Real Madrid for the first leg of their quarter-final. Spurs are boosted by the news Gareth Bale is fit but Jose Mourinho's side will also be given a fillip with the return of Cristiano Ronaldo from injury. Email me your thoughts on the game at dan.ripley@dailymail.co.uk[LNB] Real Madrid 4-0 Tottenham (7.45pm) Real Madrid: Casillas, Sergio Ramos, Pepe, Carvalho, Marcelo, Di Maria (Kaka 77), Alonso, Ozil, Khedira (Diarra 61), Adebayor (Higuain 75), Ronaldo.Subs: Adan, Diarra, Granero, Arbeloa, Garay.[LNB]Goals: Adebayor 4, 57, Di Maria 72, Roanldo 87.[LNB]Tottenham: Gomes, Corluka (Bassong 80), Gallas, Dawson, Assou-Ekotto, Jenas, Sandro,Modric, Bale, Van der Vaart (Defoe 46), Crouch.Subs: Cudicini, Huddlestone, Pavlyuchenko, Kranjcar.[LNB]Referee: Felix Brych (Germany)[LNB]21.42: Spurs are effectively out and it looks like the holders Inter are too.[LNB]But the action doesn't end there as Chelsea host Manchester United in their own quarter-final tomorrow evening.[LNB]Follow Sportsmail's coverage of that game too where I can at least promise more of an even game.[LNB]That's it from me thank you for following.[LNB]21.40: Real Madrid were heavy favourites even before this game started so 10 man Spurs never stood a chance.[LNB]Peter Crouch for all his heroics in Italy is a BIG villain here.[LNB]21.39: Likewise at the San Siro where Inter have crashed to an incredible 5-2 defeat at home to Schalke.[LNB]Full-time: Real Madrid 4-0 Tottenham[LNB]90min: Final minute at the Bernabeu and Madrid are still pressing for another. Pepe volleying over from a corner.[LNB]87min: GOAL! REAL MADRID 4-0 Tottenham[LNB]But that is sloppy from Gomes. Kaka clips a lovely ball to the far post where Ronaldo's low volley slithers past Gomes at the near post. I feel sorry for the Spurs fans that brought a ticket for the second-leg. That is now just a glorified friendly.[LNB]85min: Apparently the possession stats say Madrid have had 64 per cent of the ball. I really am surprised that is not 20 per cent more, Spurs just can't keep the ball.[LNB]82min: Slight slip from me Kaka is on for Di Maria. That's a nice luxury to have on your bench.[LNB]81min: Nearly four from Madrid, but Ramos from the edge of the box just clears the crossbar with his effort.[LNB]80min: So Bassong comes on in his place. I remember him getting taken apart by the Young Boys attack, hope he can hold out for 10 minutes here.[LNB]79min: That's the last thing Spurs need. Corluka limps off and Spurs have no fit right backs.[LNB]76min: What is happening at Inter? They are now 5-2 down after Edu fires home his second of the game for Schalke.[LNB]75min: No hat-trick for Adebayor who is replaced by Gonzalo Higuain.[LNB]74min: Defoe who maybe out of form but feeding on scraps is booked after a sneaky trip on Carvalho.  [LNB] World class: Di Maria (floor) celebrates scoring Madrid's third[LNB]72min: GOAL! REAL MADRID 3-0 Tottenham[LNB]Gomes has been brilliant for Spurs this evening but he is not stopping this! Angel Di Maria opens up his body on the right side of the box before hitting an unstoppable left foot rocket into the top corner. Game over, tie over.[LNB]70min: More relentless pressure from Madrid ends when Spurs clear and Bale gets some treatment after going down on the left.[LNB]67min: Top save from Gomes to deny Adebayor a headed hat-trick, getting a high hand to palm it over the bar.[LNB]66min: Why did Liverpool get rid of Xabi Alonso? He has not mis-placed a pass all game.[LNB]64min: Madrid toying with Spurs and have really slowed the pace. Spurs look tired and you can hardly blame them. I can see Madrid picking them off like vultures in the final 10 minutes.[LNB]61min: A change for Madrid with Lassana Diarra replacing Sami Khedira.[LNB]58min: And it's more carnage at the San Siro where Schalke have scored again![LNB]Andrea Ranocchia scoring an own goal that makes it Inter Milan 2-4 Schalke. Hands up who saw that coming?[LNB] At the double: Adebayor celebrates scoring his second goal of the game[LNB]57min: GOAL! REAL MADRID 2-0 Tottenham[LNB]Guess who? From another corner a cross flies in and Emmanuel Adebayor rises like a salmon to head into the top corner. Top finish that. Spurs have to keep their heads now.[LNB]54min: Would you believe it? Schalke have taken the lead at Inter Milan! Some Spanish chap called Raul putting the German side ahead.[LNB]53min: Credit to Spurs there. Defoe and Bale press on a counter and win a corner. Bale's cross is cleared but only as far as Assou-Ekotto who flashes a volley wide from 25 yards. Good effort.[LNB]51min: Spurs very, very deep. It's not all just in their own half, it's all in their own penalty area. But they stand firm after heavy pressure to win a goal kick. How are they going to survive this?[LNB]49min: Close from Ronaldo, he finds a postage stamp size of space towards the bottom corner and lets fly with a strike that goes just wide.[LNB]47min: He has worn that. Rnoaldo fizzes an effort from the edge of the box that wipes out William Gallas. Corluka kicks the ball out so he can get treatment.[LNB]Second-half: One change for Tottenham with Jermain Defoe on for Van der Vaart. One out-of-form forward for another there, away we go.[LNB]20.42: One man I feel sorry for is Luka Modric. The poor lad has run his socks off, but every time he gets the ball there is two Madrid players straight on him.[LNB]20.38: Sportsmail's Laura Williamson:[LNB]It's half-time and it's only 1-0 to Real Madrid. Somehow. #THFC must plug that right side of midfield. It's currently just a gaping hole.[LNB]20.35: Considering their start, that has been a good damage limitations job for Spurs. A goal and a man down they have defended well and created a few openings themselves.[LNB]Can't see it staying 1-0 though, Madrid have been relentless. It's half-time between Inter and Schalke too by the way where it stands at 2-2.[LNB] No way through: Bale's path down the left is blocked by Xabi Alonso[LNB]Half-time: Real Madrid 1-0 Tottenham[LNB]45+1min: Ramos is a lucky boy, Bale is on another charge down the left and despite barging him to the ground that would set you into row four at some League Two grounds, escapes a booking. A yellow would rule him out the second-leg too.[LNB]45min: A literal gift from Casillas, who slices a back-pass for a corner. The Spurs delivery though comes to nothing.[LNB]42min: Spurs riding their luck here! Di Maria's shot from the edge of the box rifles straight into Dawson's arms. No defence for having no time to react either, his arms were up in the air.[LNB]41min: Ronaldo goes down slightly softly under a challenge from Corluka and wins a free-kick 30 yards out. He makes a hash of it though and blasts miles over.[LNB]39min: What a game at Inter Milan, Schalke counter and after Edu's shot is initially saved he pounces on to the rebound to grab an equaliser for Schalke.[LNB]36min: Finally some good news for Spurs, Bale escaped the attentions of Pepe on the left but not for long as the defender clatters into him to bring him down. He will miss the second-leg.[LNB] Rare attack: Totenham's Dawson (left) challenges Real Madrid's Casillas for a loose ball[LNB]35min: Bit harsh on Dawson that. Spurs win a free-kick and the centre-back challenges Casillas to a high looping ball. The ball falls loose but the keeper wins the free-kick for...well I don't actually know, Dawson appears to do nothing but stand his ground.[LNB]33min: Inches away from Adebayor! Marcelo's cross to the back post takes a deflection but it finds Ramos, whose header across goal flashes just wide with the striker on loan from Manchester City just unable to get a touch a yard out.[LNB]32min: Inter have restored their lead at the San Siro with Diego Milito tapping home unmarked in the box to make it 2-1.[LNB]30min: Glimmer of hope for Spurs! Michael Dawson's diagonal long ball to Gareth Bale, sees the winger leave Ramos for dead on the left. But as he homes in on goal he is crowded out before firing a near post shot wide. Decent effort that.[LNB]27min: Spurs are really under heavy pressure here. Marcelo has Corluka on toast as the hosts win their third corner in two minutes.[LNB]25min: OptaJoe on twitter:[LNB]3 - Spurs have picked up three red cards in the Champions League this season, more than any other side. Mountain.[LNB]23min: This shows how desperate Spurs are. Van der Vaart 40-yards-out shoots from the free-kick and that shows he realises Iker Casillas is in for a quiet night.[LNB]20min: Van der Vaart the latest Spurs player booked after showing dissent. Spurs camped in their own half. They will be lucky to escape this with a reasonable score line at this rate.[LNB]17min: And amongst all that Schalke have equalised through Joel Matjp. A few moments ago Samuel Eto'o looked to have restored the lead after tucking home from close range but is flagged for offside. It's all happening![LNB]16min: And he has no excuse. Booked for a late sliding challenge on Ramos, he does the exact same thing on Marcelo and is off after getting a second yellow.[LNB] Tough luck: Madrid boss Jose Mourinho consults Peter Crouch after the latter's red card[LNB]15min: RED CARD (Peter Crouch, Tottenham)[LNB]12min: Adebayor is booked after a careless tackle of his own on Assou-Ekotto.[LNB]Spurs not quite as bad as they were in the first-half at Inter but they are looking very naive in the final third.[LNB]11min: It caught me out anyway, this from OptaJean:[LNB]5 - Dejan Stankovic's goal after 23 seconds against Schalke is the fifth fastest in Champions League history. Snap.[LNB]10min: Van der Vaart has given away the ball countless times already and Marcelo is the latest to flash a shot wide of the post. Spurs will probably take a 1-0 defeat from here, they are all over the place.[LNB]8min: Spurs pick up the first booking after Peter Crouch's sliding challenge is late and pointless on Ramos.[LNB]5min: And that also gives me a chance to tell you Dejan Stankovic opened the scoring in the first minute for Inter Milan against Schalke.[LNB] Gunned down: Ex-Arsenal striker Adebayor struck within four minutes[LNB]4min: GOAL! REAL MADRID 1-0 Tottenham[LNB]After Angel Di Maria's shot is deflected for a corner, Emmanuel Adebayor of all people rises highest to head home despite the attentions of Heurelho Gomes and Luka Modric on the line.[LNB]See I was on to something pre-match.[LNB]3min: Two early sighters from Ronaldo as Spurs struggle to contain the hosts.[LNB]2min: Bale has lined up on the right against Marcelo early on. Madrid with plenty of the ball here.[LNB]Surprised he is not on the left to trouble Sergio Ramos who will miss the second-leg if he is booked this evening.[LNB]Kick-off: I think that change has come so late, Spurs have only six players on the bench, Madrid get us going.[LNB]19.45: Hang about, Lennon is out! Jermaine Jenas is on the pitch before we start. Looks like he has suffered an injury in the warm-up, so much for Harry's plan for pace.[LNB]19.42: From the DW Stadium to the tunnel at the Bernabeu, hope Spurs are ready for this wake-up call. Out come the teams and the noise is truly deafening. What an atmosphere.[LNB]19.39: Some pointless predictions from me before we start:[LNB]Real Madrid 3-0 TottenhamInter Milan 2-0 Schalke[LNB]Rabbits and headlights come to mind....[LNB]19.36: It's a lovely sunny evening in Madrid by the way, the fans are up for it too. Don't forget this is the nine-time-winners first quarter-final since 2004.[LNB]19.34: Harry Redknapp on Madrid's starting XI:[LNB]'No, not at all it was a certainty wasn't it? The team they are playing is what we expected.[LNB]'We feel no different to any other Saturday and we won't change our approach. We have to play on the counter using Lennon and Bale at every opportunity.'[LNB]19.31: Gareth Bale overcomes his hamstring injury to make the starting line-up for Tottenham's Champions League quarter-final first leg against Real Madrid.[LNB]The Welshman has been struggling with the problem for the last 10 days, but he is passed fit to make a Spurs XI that also includes William Gallas, who had been troubled by a knee injury.[LNB]Harry Redknapp sticks with his tried and tested European strikeforce of Peter Crouch and former Madrid forward Rafael van der Vaart, while Sandro partners Luka Modric in the centre of midfield.[LNB]Cristiano Ronaldo is included in Jose Mourinho's side after recovering from his own hamstring injury which had kept him out of Portugal's two recent internationals and Saturday's shock home defeat to Sporting Gijon.[LNB]Left-back Marcelo and winger Angel Di Maria start after injury concerns, while Xabi Alonso returns after being suspended for the Sporting match.[LNB]Former Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor, on loan from Manchester City, starts up front for the nine-time European champions with Gonzalo Higuain - who returned at the weekend after more than four months out with a back problem - on the bench.[LNB]19.28: Bale v Ronaldo. How do they match up? Sportsmail's Alex Kay gives you the lowdown on two of the game's key players.[LNB]19.25: Full line-ups from both quarter-finals:[LNB]Real Madrid v TottenhamReal Madrid: Casillas, Sergio Ramos, Pepe, Carvalho, Marcelo, Di Maria, Alonso, Ozil, Khedira, Adebayor, Ronaldo. Subs: Adan, Kaka, Diarra, Granero, Arbeloa, Garay, Higuain.Tottenham: Gomes, Corluka, Gallas, Dawson, Assou-Ekotto, Lennon, Sandro, Modric, Bale, Van der Vaart, Crouch. Subs: Cudicini, Huddlestone, Jenas, Pavlyuchenko, Defoe, Bassong, Kranjcar.Referee: Felix Brych (Germany)Inter Milan v Schalke 04Inter Milan: Julio Cesar, Maicon, Ranocchia, Chivu, Zanetti, Stankovic, Motta, Sneijder, Cambiasso, Eto'o, Milito. Subs: Castellazzi, Cordoba, Kharja, Mariga, Materazzi, Pandev, Nagatomo.Schalke 04: Neuer, Uchida, Matip, Howedes, Sarpei, Farfan, Papadopoulos, Jurado, Baumjohann, Raul, Edu. Subs: Schober, Escudero, Plestan, Hao, Schmitz, Karimi, Draxler.Referee: Martin Atkinson (England)[LNB]19.22: Not just Real Madrid v Tottenham. Defending champions Inter Milan host Schalke in this evening's other quarter-final and I will keep you up to date on events there.[LNB]19.18: From InfostradaLive:[LNB]Real Madrid can break their club record for longest unbeaten streak in CL competition. They are currently on a nine-match unbeaten run. [LNB] Happy times: Emmanuel Adebayor has a great goal scoring record against Tottenham[LNB]19.15: Interesting insight from Rafael Van der Vaart before the game, who says he is not happy with a 0-0, he wants an away goal which is a great attitude in this author's opinion.[LNB]Away goals often prove crucial, but he is going to have to improve on recent performances to get one as he has gone off the boil in a Tottenham shirt recently.[LNB]To be fair can Spurs play any other way? Who really fancies them to successfully park the bus at the Bernabeu? They are going to have to play that crafty counter-attack that proved deadly at the San Siro.[LNB]19.12: Steven Pienaar on twitter:[LNB]'Watching the game at home. My prediction is Madrid 0-1 Tottenham. Goal by Modric. Let's go boys.'[LNB]Full marks for support I suppose but I'm not going racing to the bookies off the back of that.[LNB]19.08: Going against Spurs is their recent form though. They have not won since their victory at AC Milan and have failed to beat relegation candidates Blackpool, West Ham, Wolves and Wigan.[LNB]With all due respect to them clubs, Real Madrid could take Spurs to the cleaners if the north London side continue their recent form. [LNB]19.05: Can Spurs really grab a result tonight? In their favour, Spurs look a much more mature team than the one that went 3-0 down to the Young Boys, and 4-0 down at Inter Milan - their return to the San Siro to beat AC Milan proved that.[LNB]But this is another level and I think the first 10 minutes will give a good indication of whether Spurs will be suffering from stage fright or not.[LNB]19.00: The starting XI from the Bernabeu:[LNB]Real Madrid: Casillas, Ramos, Carvalho, Pepe, Marcelo, Alonso, Khedira, Di Maria, Ozil, Rinaldo, Adebayor.[LNB]Tottenham: Gomes, Corluka, Dawson, Gallas, Assou-Ekotto, Sandro, Modric, Lennon, Bale, Van der Vaart, Crouch.[LNB]18.55: Cast your mind back to the Britannia Stadium on the 19 October 2008. Tottenham had just lost yet again in the Premier League anchoring themselves to the bottom of the table with just two points after eight games.[LNB]In Juande Ramos' last Premier League game in charge, Gareth Bale and Michael Dawson were sent-off as Spurs crashed to a miserable 2-1 loss at Stoke where they played with no confidence and looked and every inch the relegation candidates they were.[LNB]Fast forward to April 5 2011 and it's a completely different atmosphere around White Hart Lane. A quarter-final Champions League tie against Real Madrid was pipe dream stuff for Spurs fans in 2008, but under Harry Redknapp things just keep getting better and better.[LNB]But is this set to be another 'glory glory' night or the end of the road for Spurs in Europe? They have been written off many times before this stage...Team news on the way.[LNB] All smiles: Gareth Bale (right) will hope he can inspire Spurs to grab a famous result at the Bernabeu[LNB]  How would you replace Gareth? Redknapp says Bale is worth ?80m like RonaldoVan der Vaart says he's back at Madrid to make history... not to prove a point'To the Special One': Mourinho treats Gazza to tickets in his private boxAll the latest Tottenham news, features and opinion[LNB]  Explore more:People: Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Jose Mourinho, Juande Ramos, Michael Dawson, William Gallas, Harry Redknapp, Sergio Ramos, Xabi Alonso, Peter Crouch, Luka Modric, Emmanuel Adebayor, Maicon, Martin Atkinson, Jermaine Jenas Places: Madrid, London, Portugal, Germany, United Kingdom, Europe
