Rams land Livermore

Derby have signed Tottenham midfielder Jake Livermore on an initial one-month loan. The deal for the 19-year-old was completed prior to their Championship opener against Peterborough but the player is suspended following a dismissal for Spurs' reserves last season. Livermore, who scored for Spurs against Barcelona in the Wembley Cup in pre-season, will also miss the next three games and will not be available until the home clash with Plymouth on Saturday August 22. Boss Nigel Clough told the club's official website: "He is a big, powerful, energetic midfielder and someone we believe can do an important job for us. "He is only young and still learning the game, which is why Tottenham are prepared to let him come out on loan to us. We want to keep him until Christmas at least and see how it works out for both parties. "The midfield is definitely an area where we need an extra body and we are happy to have concluded this deal." Meanwhile, midfielder Robbie Savage has signed a one-year contract extension which will keep him at Pride Park until 2011. The 35-year-old's career has enjoyed something of a renaissance since Clough's appointment as manager at the start of the year. Frozen out under previous boss Paul Jewell and loaned out to League One club Brighton, Savage looked set to leave Derby. But the former Wales international is now a first-team regular and an integral part of Clough's plans. "If you'd have suggested to me eight months ago I'd be signing a contract extension I'd have thought you were mad," said Savage.
