QPR boss ready for the big time as Taarabt re-signs from Spurs

QPR manager Jim Magilton says that the arrival of Adel Taarabt from Tottenham is a sign that the club is heading for the big time. Magilton made the claim after QPR saw off competition from Spanish side Malaga - and other unnamed Championship clubs - to bring him on loan for a season. Taarabt showed brilliant form when he played seven games on loan at Loftus Road last season, encouraging the club to push hard to retain him. The 20-year-old Morroccan attacking midfielder had been desperate to gain more first-team chances, having made just 14 substitute appearances for Tottenham since joining from Lens in 2007. Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp blocked a move to Malaga earlier this month because he insisted that, if Taarabt was to leave, it would have to be a permanent move. But Redknapp has allowed Taarabt to join Loftus Road after the player pleaded with him to let him go. Magilton said: 'I've seen Adel play plenty of times and I know that he's a player of undoubted ability. He's a match winner on his day and will bring undoubted competition to the squad. 'The fact that we have been able to agree a deal to bring in someone of Adel's quality shows the sort of direction that the club is heading in. If you can encourage a squad player from the Premier League to take the drop down to the Championship then it shows what your intentions are.' And Magilton thinks Taarabt will get even better with more games under his belt. Speaking on the club's official website, he added: 'He will benefit from playing regularly and, given a run in the side, he will give us another dimension. 'Make no mistake, we are all very ambitious here - none more so than the players - and Adel's arrival will bring vital competition for places which is needed for any squad that has ambitions to challenge.'
