O'Hara spurred on by Pompey's SOS call - and loving life at the sharp end

One year on from Tottenham's worst start to a season since the Titanic went down, it is ironic that Jamie O'Hara is on board a sinking ship once again. The 23-year-old midfielder has swapped Spurs for a year's loan at Portsmouth, a club who have had as many owners in the past two months as points won this term - three. But O'Hara couldn't be happier because he is getting regular football and loving the challenge. He's been on loan at Chesterfield and Millwall before so is used to getting away from  White Hart Lane for first team action and insisted: 'I was in the comfort zone at Tottenham. I could have stayed and played matches here and there. But I am not the type of person happy to do that. I want to play every week. 'I hate sitting on the bench and I hate watching players while I'm sitting there thinking, "I want to be out there". 'So that's why it was a good opportunity to go and play football every week with Portsmouth. And yes, this experience, the whole situation, can only work in my favour. 'It's a sticky situation where we are bottom of the league. We are having to fight for every result, and that can only make me better as a player.' It's been a good week for O'Hara - following on from Pompey's first win of the season at Wolves,  Saudi businessman Ali al Faraj has taken over the club and players will now get their September wages a month late. O'Hara added in the Express: 'It was great to finally get off the mark - it's probably the worst we've played, but you could see how much it meant to the players. There has been a lot of stuff going on in the last week or so at the club, so it was fantastic to get a result. Obviously it lifts everyone. 'And not being paid brings us together even more -  but at the end of the day, for footballers who earn good money, losing out on a week is not the worst thing that can happen. '
