New Tottenham signing Ryan Nelsen admits it is a strange feeling training alongside players who he used to kick for a living.

Nelsen, 34, completed his surprise move to north London on Thursday after having his contract cancelled by Blackburn.

"It's a wee bit weird at the moment," Nelsen said after his first day's training at Tottenham's Chigwell base. "I have been trying to kick most of the guys in that dressing room for the last few years. But I am obviously really excited and delighted at the opportunity. Looking from afar it appeared such an exciting place to be so to be amongst it now is pretty cool.""

Nelsen arrived in England when he joined Blackburn from DC United in January 2005, with Spurs going on to end that season in ninth place - 43 points behind league winners Chelsea.

Spurs are now above their big-spending London rivals in the table and are just five points off the top of the Barclays Premier League.

Nelsen has been amazed by how far the club have progressed recently, and thinks they have a real chance of winning the league this term.

"Looking at where the club is now from when I came here to England, it's been an amazing achievement from Harry and from the chairman," Nelsen said.

"The squad is the best one in the Premier League from one to 25 so I'm just really happy and excited to be here."
