Make or break time for Spurs - Defoe
Jermain Defoe admits Tottenham have reached make-or-break point in their season ahead of a crucial four days for the Champions League hopefuls.[LNB] Spurs take on Pompey in an FA Cup semi-final at Wembley on Sunday and then Harry Redknapp's side host north London derby rivals Arsenal on Wednesday in the Premier League.[LNB]Tottenham are eager to win the cup, but are also desperate to finish fourth in the league in order to secure a place in next season's Champions League.[LNB]Defoe is aware of the significance of the coming fixtures, particularly the meeting with financially-stricken Portsmouth, who he left in 2009 under somewhat of a cloud to remain in the bad books of fans at Fratton Park.[LNB]The England striker said in the Daily Mirror: "The next two games will define the remainder of the season for my Tottenham side."[LNB]Defoe has since been joined by the likes of former Portsmouth players Peter Crouch, Niko Kranjcar and Younes Kaboul under ex-Pompey boss Redknapp at Spurs, but he hopes South Coast animosity will be calmed by memories of FA Cup glory in 2008. [LNB]He added: "Portsmouth, in particular, will be tough. A lot of our players will have mixed feelings about playing them again because of the divided loyalties and the situation the club is in.[LNB]"I have to say that I, too, wouldn't be human if I didn't still have feelings for Pompey.[LNB]"I was sold by them because of the perilous financial situation that the club was in. I had no choice in the matter.[LNB]"Yet you wouldn't believe the number of abusive phone calls and messages I got from Portsmouth fans angry at the way they thought I was treating them. Some of them very, very nasty indeed.[LNB]"I was shocked. I couldn't believe it, not only because of the things that they were saying but also the fact they had animosity towards me over a situation that wasn't of my making.[LNB]"The truth was that my departure from Fratton Park wasn't up to me. Pompey had to cash in on me."
