Macari fears Brown departure

Former Celtic manager Lou Macari would not be surprised to see Scott Brown moving to Tottenham. Reports in a number of Sunday newspapers claimed Spurs were lining up a £10million bid for the Scotland midfielder, who was a 51st-minute substitute during Celtic's 3-1 win over Aberdeen on Saturday. While Celtic are gearing up for the challenge posed by Arsenal during tomorrow night's Champions League play-off first leg at Parkhead, Macari believes there is also plenty to fear from their north London rivals. "I have laughed off some of the speculation in recent weeks with regards transfers but I haven't laughed this one off," Macari said. "Scott Brown is an attacking midfielder, an energetic player who can cover the miles. These days £10million is not a fantastic amount of money in England and if Celtic have ambitions then they would not want to sell him. "But the problem for clubs in Scotland is that £10million is massive. There are not a lot of Scottish players under the microscope by teams in England so Celtic might snap the hands off Spurs if the offer comes in."
