Levy calms financial fears

Daniel Levy insists the construction of new training facilities at Tottenham will not affect their spending power. Spurs have started work on their state of the art, 67-acre complex at the Bulls Cross site in North London. The Premier League giants have also revealed plans of late to build a new stadium away from their current home at White Hart Lane, which has been partially funded by the issue of new shares. While the club's ambition will please supporters, the financial demands required in order to fulfil these promises have raised concerns. Levy, though, is adamant no money will be taken away from the playing side of the club in order to push through projects away from the field. "Tottenham is a very big club and as far as this training facility is concerned we arranged the facilities some years ago so it is financed and ring-fenced," he said. While that means Spurs boss Harry Redknapp will continue to be backed in the transfer market, Levy is hoping the new training complex will help to develop more home-grown stars of the future. "The most important thing is bringing players through the youth system and to do that you need the right facilities, that is something we haven't had at Spurs Lodge," he said. "Home-grown players are in the interest of the Premier League and hopefully with our new facilities we will see more players coming through to the first team. "Every club wants to see players come through rather than buying players from other clubs. That is something we are striving for."
