Lennon targets World Cup spot

Aaron Lennon is hoping to maintain his goalscoring streak in a bid to win a place in England's squad for next summer's World Cup finals. The Spurs ace has started the campaign in fine fashion with two match-winning goals, form that has earned the winger a recall to Fabio Capello's squad for their games against Slovenia and Croatia. Prior to scoring twice in his last two league matches Lennon had scored just 12 times in 96 starts and 23 substitute appearances, a number the former Leeds man is looking to improve upon. The pacey 22-year-old knows he is capable of scoring more goals and sees no reason why he cannot score at least 10 in the Premier League this season. GoalsLennon is hoping by scoring more goals for Spurs he can continue to catch the eye of Capello and win a seat on the plane to South Africa next summer. "Goalscoring is one of the things I've been trying to improve in my game," admitted Lennon. "I want to score more goals, I've got two in two now so I'm happy. "I know I've got goals in my game. I don't think I've scored enough in the last couple of years, it's definitely my aim to score more and it's been going well so far. "I scored five last season [in the Premier League], which is my best total, but I'm definitely capable of getting 10 so I'll look to get that this year. As a winger I want to get more assists so goals and assists is what I'm looking to do. "I don't think I've scored enough in the last couple of years, it's definitely my aim to score more and so far it's gone well. Options"I've been trying different things, shooting practice on the training ground, mixing up my game and trying different options to get more shots off really. "Harry gives me a lot of confidence. He tells me to get in the box, try cutting in from the other side to get a shot on goal, but it's something I've done for myself because I know I've got goals in me. "There's a lot of competition on the right. I've been in and out of it this year so my aim is to stay in the squad. But I'm concentrating on playing well for Spurs and if I do that then hopefully I'll get my chance. "It's not just because it's World Cup year, I've always wanted to be in the England side. The last World Cup was definitely the highlight of my career. I've never experienced anything like it."
