King keen to play bigger role

Ledley King has set his sights on becoming a regular in the Tottenham side this season as he learns to cope with his knee problems. The 28-year-old defender has suffered with injury for the last three years and there had been fears that his career may have been in jeopardy. However, he has now learnt to manage the problem by staying away from full training and allowing a week's rest in between matches. And, while he is not setting any targets for his involvement this year, he hopes to play a more significant part in the new campaign. "Hopefully I can get more games under my belt," he said. "Personally, I'm not aiming to play a certain number, just as many as I can. "Obviously there's no Europa League this season for us so hopefully that will help me." Spurs kick-off the new season against Liverpool at White Hart Lane and, while King is expecting a stern test, he feels it will provide a good gauge of their progress. "This is a great chance to test ourselves to see if we've improved," he said.
