King holds England dream

Tottenham defender Ledley King has still not given up on representing England at the World Cup next summer. The 29-year-old suffers from chronic knee problems which restrict the amount of games he is able to play and severely limits his ability to train. Fabio Capello was impressed enough by King's displays for Spurs last season that he called him up for the games against Slovakia and Ukraine in March and April. But the centre-back was unable to even join his team-mates on training pitch and his inclusion led to an unseemly club versus country row. King, who has had the cartilage in both knees removed, still hopes an agreement can be reached which would see him on the plane to South Africa. Sorted out"I don't want to close to door on my international career then regret it," he told the News of the World. "If there is a way we can all agree how it could work, I would love it. "It is not particularly a case of playing in pain, but it is during the week that things can hurt when the knees start to settle down. Basically the bone rubs on bone. "Everyone at the club accepts what I do. With England it is different because people are not used to a player who might be sitting out most of the trainings sessions. "I just hope something can be sorted out. It would great to be part of the World Cup next summer."
