Khumalo eyes Tottenham trial

South Africa defender Bongani Khumalo has claimed he is on the brink of earning a trial at Tottenham.

The 23-year-old SuperSport United star, who partnered Portsmouth's Aaron Mokoena at the heart of his country's defence when they hosted this summer's World Cup, described a possible move to Spurs as "a dream".

Stating that his agent was close to securing him a trial at White Hart Lane, Khumalo told Football365.co.za: "They are working on it at the moment, but it hasn't been confirmed as of yet. It would be a dream. I have always wanted to play in England and obviously in the Premier League and it would be a dream to move to Tottenham - and if it happened, it would be up to me to make sure it works."

Spurs will play in the Champions League for the first time this season after finishing fourth in the Barclays Premier League in May.

Khumalo added: "Playing in the Champions League would be another dream.

"I think the Champions League is the closest level to the World Cup in terms of quality and the play, so it would be great to make the move."

Khumalo enjoyed the highlight of his career at the World Cup when he netted the opening goal in South Africa's 2-1 victory over France.
