Jol hints at Bale bid

Ajax boss Martin Jol has hinted he could be ready to rescue Gareth Bale from his unhappy time at Tottenham. The Wales international has struggled with injuries and a loss of form at White Hart Lane following his £5million move from Southampton in May 2007. In the 24 Premier League appearances he has made for Spurs, the full-back is still to finish on the winning side during his time under Jol, Juande Ramos and Harry Redknapp. Jol, who brought Bale to North London from St Mary's, believes the youngster needs regular action and feels a switch away from England would be a wise move. He told the Daily Mirror: "He is at a great club but he has got to be playing football because that is the only thing that will help him to get better. "It might be that going abroad might be the best thing for him because it might help him to get his confidence back. "When he was a young kid he was brilliant at free-kicks and corners. It would be a shame if that talent was to go to waste." Jol insists that the raw ability he spotted in Bale remains and is confident the 20-year-old can recapture the form which saw several clubs chasing his signature two years ago. He added: "I promised his mum that I would play him when I signed him. I think that's why he chose Spurs over the other clubs that wanted him. "People might have doubted that he was ready but I was confident that he had the talent and that he would become one of the best players in Europe in his position. I still think that could be the case. "It might be that a lot was expected of him at a young age but he had the talent back then and he has still got it."
