Jermain Defoe is confident that Tottenham are destined to make the Champions League group stage despite their 3-2 defeat by Young Boys in Switzerland.[LNB]Spurs need to win in the play-off round second leg at White Hart Lane next week, but Defoe reckons that the fact Young Boys failed to finished them off means fate is on their side.[LNB]Harry Redknapp's side fought back from 3-0 down with goals from Sebastian Basson and a screamer by Roman Pavlyuchenko.[LNB] Still in the running: Defoe (right) has no fear for Tottenham[LNB]And they then survived two late chances for Christian Schneuwly to put the tie beyond doubt for the Berne side.[LNB]'I think we are destined to be in the Champions League because the two chances they had at the end left me with my heart in my mouth,' Defoe told the London Evening Standard.[LNB]'I am delighted Pav scored the second goal and I am confident we can win at the Lane. The second leg will be massive and it'll be a great atmosphere.[LNB]'We worked so hard last season to get to this stage and we don't want to throw it away. It is massive for the club and all we have to do now is win the game.'[LNB] Back in the game: Pavlyuchenko scores Spurs' second in Switzerland[LNB]Defoe is sure that Spurs won't be caught so cold in the return leg, admitting that Young Boys' plastic pitch had a hand in the result.[LNB]'We've seen enough to get at them,' said the England striker. 'There was space in behind them but the early goal changed the game a little bit. [LNB]'Towards the end they got behind the ball and it is always difficult to break teams down when they do that. I thought we played well.[LNB]'We showed good spirit to come back. Starts like that happen sometimes. I don't want to make excuses but it was different playing on that pitch.[LNB] Ups and downs: Defoe shows his frustration as Spurs fail to convert a chance[LNB]'They're a good side technically, they pass the ball well and they are used to the surface. They made it really difficult for us in the first half. In the second half we passed the ball well.'[LNB]Defoe was taken off with 24 minutes to go with a tight groin and revealed he has been nursing the problem since playing for England in South Africa.[LNB]'I felt a little tweak in my groin during the World Cup,' he said. 'I have been strengthening it and just came off as a precaution.[LNB]'As I was sprinting in the second half I could really feel it. Aaron Lennon had the same problem last season and he ripped it. [LNB]'I don't want to miss six or seven months of the season like him. Hopefully, it'll be all right for Stoke on Saturday.'[LNB] Oh boy, Harry!
