I've put World Cup place in danger by joining Tottenham, admits Crouch

Peter Crouch admits he has 'gambled' with his World Cup place following his £9million switch from Portsmouth to Tottenham. The England striker fears his big-money move to Spurs might not pay-off as Jermain Defore, Robbie Keane, and Roman Pavlyuchenko are all vying for a starting role at White Hart Lane. England boss Fabio Capello has warned his players they must be playing regular first team football if they want to travel to South Africa next summer. However Crouch has no regrets about moving to North London and is not daunted by Spurs' star-studded strikeforce. He said: 'It's definitely a gamble. Some people would try and makesure that they are playing in every game going into a World Cup. 'Maybe I could have gone somewhere else and been first choice every single week. 'But I'm ambitious, I want to improve myself and I want to be partof a team that I think can achieve things. That's what I feel I am partof here. 'One of the reasons I came here was that we have a fantastic squad and having that competition keeps you on your toes. 'I'm not worried about it. I have confidence in my own ability and I am sure that, given the opportunities, I will take them. 'I am confident I will be playing every week and doing well and making sure that I am on that plane to South Africa.'
